OUR MISSION
Our mission is to create a vibrant, welcoming town for today and for generations to come, while honoring, preserving, and celebrating the rich legacy of our past in every effort to restore and rebuild.
WHAT IS THE MAIN STREET PROGRAM?
The Main Street Program was established by the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s National Main Street Center, based in Washington, D.C. It is designed to assist with the universal problems of declining downtown business districts. Revitalization has successfully been accomplished through the combined efforts of many community groups and more than 300 cities with populations under 50,000 nationwide over the past ten years. They have addressed and improved important issues such as retail mix, building vacancies, recruiting new businesses, and restructuring the existing business.
WHY IS ABERDEEN REVITALIZATION IMPORTANT?
- It increases the tax base of Aberdeen by converting unoccupied or underutilized buildings into revenue-producing businesses.
- By diversifying the business mix and recruiting new businesses, dollars that would be spent elsewhere stay in the community.
- It encourages much-needed building maintenance and facade rehabilitation.
- A revitalized town attracts new residents to settle in the area.
- Tourism and visitor-related dollars are increased.
The historic character of Aberdeen is preserved in its buildings. - It promotes the image of Aberdeen as a single entity: a fun, attractive place that serves as a hub of community life.
- It restores pride to the community.
